Teide, volcanic route

There are many roads leading to Teide in the center of the island. The most recommended is the TF-24 from La Laguna which passes through the area of La Esperanza. You can stop at the various viewpoints to see the north and South of the island. Other optional routes are the TF-21 from Orotava in the north and the TF-38 from Chio to Vilaflor.

Any one of these routes will provide magnificient views, and take us away from the typical “sun and sand” part of the island.

After passing through the pine forests you will arrive in the National Park. Here you will find multiple examples of the various volcanic eruptios that have ocurred over the centuries.

The roads of these various routes will take you toa n altitude of 2550 metres above sea level, shich in winter means low cold temperatures , and we recomnend you take appropiate equipement to deal with this “problem”.

It is also a “MUST” at least one stop at one of the visitor centers in the park.

The road surface in the National Park is good.

This route takes its name from the mountain range in the north East corner of the island of Tenerife. We recommend you visit the quaint isolated villages in this region.

The “Pico Ingles” and the Almaciga Beach in Taganana are worth visiting as are the small villages that you encounter along the route. The main access road is the TF-12 from La Laguna passing through Las Mercedes and San Andres. As you travel along these roads you will find lush vegetation and many viewpoints with stopping areas where you can enjoy the wonderful views.

Los Gigantes, Masca y Teno

From Guia de Isora, the road continues towards Santiago del Teide, passing through Chio and Tamaimo TF-375.

From Chio there are two roads . One TF-38 going through Boca Tauce, rising to El Teide, and another TF-454, going towards Tamaimo continuing along the coast to Los Gigantes and Puerto Santiago and Playa la Arena.

In the town of Santiago del Teide in the historic center you will find St Fernandos Church and the Casa El Patio the most important buildings in the town which were built in the seventeenth Century.

The next parto f the road leads to the pintoresque village of Masca TF-436 and its wonderful views are highly recommended. The road to Masca follows a winding path through deep gorges with steep slopes. It is undoubledly one of the most pintoresque roads on the island.

A winding road to enjoyo n a model such as the Duke 690 KTM, and the 990 Adventure , that is available to rent.

We also highly recommend a visit to the Punta Teno following road which runs through the mountains and props. To the sea at the Teno higthouse.

There is a small Beach with Black volcanic sand. The surface of this road is not very good and we suggest driving with care “but” the scenery along the route and the destination are well worth it.
